A victory that weighs heavily on the start of the season
In Gijón, Galán and Chingotto didn’t just win a trophy: they regained the upper hand in the story of the start of the year. According to the final’s live coverage, the No.2 pair dominated Tapia and Coello in straight sets, 7/5 7/6, at the end of a tight match in which every service game had the appearance of an arm wrestle. This is a strong signal, especially as the world No.1s had already won the Riyadh Season P1 title against the same opponents.
What really stood out was the manner in which he did it. Galán often turned the game on its head in hot moments, with his volume of game, his smash quality and his ability to accelerate along the line. Alongside him, Chingotto once again played his role as metronome, clean in defense, precise in transitions and capable of making rallies last until the opponent’s error. In a final between the two best pairs in the world, this management of dips made all the difference.
A journey built on building momentum
Their Asturian week followed a clear logic: start without burning any energy, then raise the cursor round after round. Exempted from the first round as top seeds n°2, Galán and Chingotto went on to eliminate Enrique Goenaga and Aimar Goñi, before dominating Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini in the quarterfinals with a net score of 6/2 6/1.
The semifinals proved to be the real turning point. Opposed to Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto, who had been very solid since the start of the tournament, they had to turn around a match that had got off to a bad start after losing the first set. Their 4/6 6/3 6/4 victory confirmed a trend that had already been visible for several months: this pair now knows how to win differently, by accepting to defend more, play higher at the net at the right moment and wait before releasing.
Opposite them, Tapia and Coello also arrived on the back of their success against Yanguas and Stupaczuk in the semifinals. That’s what makes Gijón’s title all the more special. Both on the official tournament scoreboard and on the Premier Padel results, this triumph puts Galán and Chingotto back at the center of the battle for 2026. In Gijón, they didn’t fly over the tournament from first to last point; they built it up, match after match, until they broke the circuit’s benchmark.
