Gemma Triay’s elbow tape is linked to joint hypermobility, according to a segment featuring the player from Hello Padel. The strapping provides preventive support around her right elbow, with no newly announced acute injury.
Why Gemma Triay wears tape on her elbow
Gemma Triay wears the tape to limit the hyperextension associated with her hypermobility, according to the Hello Padel segment with Mauri Andrini. The video addresses her physical condition from 6:53. Hypermobility means that a joint can move through a greater range than average. In this case, the tape provides mechanical support without immobilising the arm.
The tape alone is not evidence of tennis elbow, tendinitis or another specific injury. No recent official source reviewed for this article reports such a diagnosis for Triay. The FIP still ranked her world number one on 28 September 2026, with 53 wins, 11 losses and six titles in 2026, alongside Delfina Brea.
Triay prepares the tape before matches
Gemma Triay also referred to the tape in an interview published in December 2025. Asked about her routine before going on court, the Spaniard listed preparing the tape among the steps that come before her warm-up.
Before matches, we are with the team, we go over the game plan, I listen to some music, I prepare the tape…
Her words are consistent with regular, planned use of the strapping rather than pain that appeared immediately before a match. The support is part of her preparation, although Triay has not published a medical report detailing the exact nature of her hypermobility.
An old right-wrist operation should not be confused with the elbow
Triay also has a medical history involving her right arm that can cause confusion. In December 2017, she underwent surgery in Barcelona for a right-wrist problem she had been dealing with for several weeks. That procedure involved the wrist, not the elbow, and there is no public evidence linking it to the strapping she wears today.
Gemma Triay therefore uses the tape as preventive support related to hypermobility. There is no basis for describing it as a new elbow injury without a medical statement or an announcement from the player. Her current activity at the top of the FIP ranking has not been accompanied by any official communication announcing a stoppage for this reason.
