Tsukamoto and Tokumoto win 6-3, 6-4
Saki Tsukamoto and Kae Tokumoto won Saturday’s women’s final at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center against Indonesia’s Fadona Kusumawati and Fitriani Sabatini, 6-3, 6-4. Japan becomes the first country to win the women’s padel title at the Asian Games. Padel is making its debut as a medal sport at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
Kusumawati and Sabatini led 4-1 in the second set. Tsukamoto and Tokumoto won the next five games to close the match 6-4 after taking the opening set 6-3.
Tsukamoto and Tokumoto had beaten Novela Putria and Beatrice Gumulya 6-1, 6-3 in the semi-finals. The previous day, Kae Tokumoto had explained to the International Padel Federation what she wanted her pair to impose:
“You cannot win with powerful shots alone.”
Kotomi Ozawa, also part of Team Japan in the women’s draw, had used her official Instagram account to present the Japanese team’s preparation for the Asian Games and the padel tournament schedule in Nagoya.
First women’s padel podium at the 2026 Asian Games
The padel tournament runs from 28 September to 3 October at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center, with men’s and women’s doubles draws. The finals on Saturday 3 October award the first padel medals in Asian Games history.
The women’s draw featured 23 pairs, according to the FIP, which listed Tokumoto and Tsukamoto just behind compatriots Kotomi Ozawa and Chifumi Sato among the leading seeds. Japan won gold with the duo listed directly behind Ozawa and Sato.
Indonesia finishes with two women’s medals. Kusumawati and Sabatini take silver, while Putria and Gumulya won bronze against the Philippines’ Danna Abad and Joshea Malazarte, 6-0, 6-0. Actu Padel had followed the opening rounds in Nagoya.
Qatar and Malaysia play for the first men’s title
Qatar and Malaysia meet in the final for the first men’s padel title at the Asian Games. The Naif brothers beat Iran’s Hami Golestan and Arya Roghani 6-4, 6-2 in the semi-finals. Christian Didier Chin and Aidan Yunus reached the gold-medal match after coming back to beat Farsad Shahi and Amirmohammad Jamshidi 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The FIP announced a 20-pair men’s draw, with Qatar as the top seed and Malaysia among the leading teams. The Qatar-Malaysia final is due to close the padel programme on Saturday 3 October. At the time this article was checked, the FIP had not yet published the result.
