Madrid will be her final professional tournament at home
Alejandra Salazar is playing a professional tournament in her home city for the final time this week before retiring at the end of the 2026 season. The Comunidad de Madrid Premier Padel P1 has scheduled a tribute for Sunday, September 6, between the women’s and men’s finals on Centre Court at the Movistar Arena. Actu Padel had already covered the planned farewell before the tournament began.
Born in Madrid on December 31, 1985, Salazar is 40 and sits 13th in the FIP ranking published on August 31. Her current partner is Aranza Osoro. Salazar’s official profile also records her former world No. 1 status and seven world championship titles with Spain. She reached the Madrid P1 semi-finals in 2025.
In July, when the Padel Invitational in Australia was announced, Salazar referred to her final season in a statement published by the International Padel Federation:
It is very special to experience such an important moment for padel, especially during my final season as a professional player.
Her post after the London P1 then announced a few weeks away from competition before the final part of the season. That message from her official account accompanies the tour’s return to Madrid.
Salazar and Osoro open against Martínez and Manquillo
In Madrid, Salazar is partnering Aranza Osoro. The No. 8 seeds are scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. on Centre Court against Lucía Martínez and Letizia Manquillo. The draw could place them against Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay in the quarter-finals if both pairs win their opening matches.
The men’s first round produced several three-set matches on Tuesday. Álvaro Meléndez and José Luis González beat Álex Chozas and Juan Ignacio De Pascual 4-6, 6-2, 7-6, while Andrés Fernández Lancha and Denis Perino defeated David Gala and Enzo Jensen 3-6, 7-5, 7-6. Miguel and Nuno Deus also won in three sets against Hugo García and Carlos del Pico.
In the women’s draw, Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen opened with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Alix Collombon and Ksenia Sharifova won 6-3, 6-0. The men’s second round is also being played on Wednesday.
Coello, Tapia, Galán and Chingotto return in Madrid
Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia, the top seeds in the men’s draw, start against Fede Mouriño and Marc Quílez. Fede Chingotto and Ale Galán face Aris Patiniotis and Diego García. Juan Lebrón and Leo Augsburger begin against Javi Martínez and Luis Hernández.
The Madrid tournament ends on September 6. Salazar is due to continue her 2026 season after Madrid, but the organisers have already set her final home tribute for Sunday on the same Centre Court where she opens her draw this Wednesday.
