Clément Geens and Dylan Guichard won their opening match at the Milano Premier Padel P1 on Monday, 12 October. The Belgian and Frenchman defeated Spain’s Antonio Fernández and Mario Del Castillo 6-1, 6-2. After entering the main draw directly following changes to the entry list linked to Coki Nieto’s withdrawal, they are through to the round of 32.
Geens and Guichard drop just three games
The match started at 9 a.m. in Milan. Geens and Guichard took the opening set 6-1 and closed out the second 6-2. They conceded just three games and needed only two sets to record their first win of the week.
Next up are Eduardo Alonso and Aimar Goñi, the No. 10 seeds, who received a first-round bye. The meeting is part of the round of 32, with the exact start time yet to be confirmed. It is a tougher test for the Franco-Belgian partnership.
Direct main-draw entry after Coki Nieto’s withdrawal
Coki Nieto’s withdrawal led to changes in the Milano P1 entry list. His regular partner Mike Yanguas is competing alongside Pablo Lijó. Those changes moved Geens and Guichard into the 37th and final direct-entry position in the men’s main draw, allowing them to bypass qualifying.
Instead of playing qualifying matches over the weekend, the pair began their campaign in the main draw. They made the most of that opening against Fernández and Del Castillo, securing a straight-sets win on Monday morning.
Geens builds on his Düsseldorf run
Last week, Clément Geens came through three qualifying rounds and won his first main-draw match at the Germany P2 alongside Nacho Moragues Moltò. Their run ended in the round of 16 with a 7-5, 6-3 loss to Maxi Arce and Juan Tello.
The Belgian had already spoken about reuniting with Dylan Guichard in his interview with Actu Padel following Düsseldorf. The two also reached the round of 32 at the Paris Major in September. They now have another main-draw victory together and a meeting with the No. 10 seeds ahead.
