Manu Ginóbili at the Málaga Premier Padel P1: the Argentine basketball legend attended the semi-finals held on Saturday, 18 July, at the Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena.
Why was he there? The former San Antonio Spurs player was a special guest for the day, with no sporting role announced. He spent time with fellow Argentinians Agustín Tapia and Delfina Brea, as well as Arturo Coello and Luigi Carraro, president of the International Padel Federation.
Why was Manu Ginóbili at the Málaga Premier Padel P1?
The images supplied by the organisers show a relaxed meeting on the sidelines of a decisive day for the tournament. No sporting statement or padel-related project was announced on this occasion: the visit was primarily an opportunity to meet several leading figures from the circuit.
The scene carried particular meaning around Tapia and Brea. Both are among the most recognisable faces of Argentine padel, while Ginóbili remains one of the country’s greatest sporting figures. His career includes four NBA championships with the San Antonio Spurs and an Olympic gold medal won with Argentina in Athens in 2004.
In Málaga, the meeting offered an image of connection between generations and sports. Coello’s presence added another dimension. Alongside Tapia at the top of the men’s circuit, the Spaniard forms one of Premier Padel’s most closely followed pairs. With Luigi Carraro also present, the photographs bring together a basketball legend, two leading Argentine padel players and one of the international game’s biggest names.
A high-profile guest for the Málaga event
The Andalusian tournament runs from 11 to 19 July 2026, with the semi-finals scheduled for 18 July ahead of Sunday’s finals. The event features both men’s and women’s draws at the Martín Carpena as part of the Premier Padel tour.
For the organisers, Ginóbili’s appearance provides exposure beyond padel’s usual audience. It also highlights the circuit’s ability to attract recognised figures from other sports without taking attention away from the main focus: the closing stages of the Málaga P1.
The visit is likely to remain one of the weekend’s standout images. Alongside Tapia, Brea, Coello and Carraro, Manu Ginóbili found another arena in Málaga where Argentina holds a central place.
