Spain need only three matches
Lucía Sainz and Lorena Alonso delivered Spain’s first point in the +40 category with a 6-1, 6-2 win over E. Petrauskaite and A. Zubori. Belén Castrillo and María Vaquero then beat A. Neugarten and R. Kaczmarczyk 6-0, 6-0 in +60.
Eva Gayoso and María Wakonigg closed the final in +55, beating L. Teer and V. Costabel 6-1, 6-3. Spain’s third point ended the tie before the +50 and +45 matches were needed. Spain have now won all four editions of the women’s Senior World Cup after titles in 2018, 2022 and 2024. The United States were playing their first final in the competition. The 2026 format divides teams into five age categories: +40, +45, +50, +55 and +60. A national team tie can therefore include up to five matches.
Carolina Navarro was taking charge of Spain’s women at a Senior World Cup for the first time in Buenos Aires after her official appointment in May. Interviewed at the time by Mundo Deportivo, the former world number one described what returning to the national setup meant to her.
Coming back as captain is something very special.

Belgium finish fourth after the Netherlands win 3-1
Leonie Geukens and Eva Vanhyfte put Belgium ahead in +40 with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over D. Blonk and M. Smolders. The Netherlands won the next three matches and secured their first women’s podium in FIP Senior World Cup history.
Jacqueline Schuur and J. Van Wijk levelled the tie in +60, beating Corinne Buelens and Isabelle Georges 6-2, 6-2. Marie-José Rutten and Hugoline Van Hoorn won the +55 match against Katrien Hermans and Annick Claes 6-4, 6-0. I. Sterkenburg and I. Van Boven then beat Sabine Appelmans and Daphne Vande Zande 6-0, 6-4 in +50. That third Dutch point ended the tie at 3-1.
Belgium leave Buenos Aires in fourth place after losing their semi-final 3-2 to the United States. Their run at the 2026 Senior World Cup had started with first place in the group before reaching the last four.
Argentina and Spain meet for the men’s title
Argentina and Spain are contesting their fourth consecutive men’s final in this event. Spain won the 2018 and 2022 editions, while Argentina took the title in 2024 at La Nucía. Our tournament preview highlighted several former tour figures selected by both nations.
Both teams reached the final without dropping a set in the knockout draw. Argentina beat Italy 4-0 in the semi-final and Spain defeated France 3-0. At our latest check of the official live score, the teams were level at 1-1 after the +40 and +60 categories, with the +55 match in progress.
The men’s final closes the fourth edition of the Senior World Cup in Buenos Aires. In the women’s event, Spain have already set the benchmark with four titles from four editions.
