A wild card won on the court
Federico Chiostri and Ramiro Pereyra will be in the main draw at the Buenos Aires Premier Padel P1. At the end of three days of competition at the Premium APA Center, the Argentine pair won the wild card tournament organized by the Asociación Pádel Argentino, an event designed as a direct on-ramp to the big event in Buenos Aires.
The final confirmed their build momentum. Facing Santiago Frugoni Zavala and Matías del Moral, Chiostri and Pereyra came out on top 6-4, 6-2, with a solid performance on serve, authoritative forward play and real control of key moments. In a format where the slightest drop in tension can be costly, they were able to keep up the tempo and lock in the important exchanges.
Their success is no mean feat. In the official announcement published prior to the tournament, the APA had lined up nine male pairs to compete for the invitation, with just one ticket up for grabs. Chiostri and Pereyra were among the expected pairs, but they still had to convert this status on the track. This has now been achieved.
A new dimension to the main draw area
This wild card opens the door to the main draw of a Premier Padel tournament at home, with all the sporting significance that implies. For a pair from the Argentine circuit, direct access to the main draw of a P1 means a change of scale in just a few matches: higher intensity, greater tempo, public pressure and far greater exposure to the circuit’s benchmarks.
What’s more, the stakes are higher than just their course. Since the beginning of spring, the APA has multiplied the number of gateways to the Buenos Aires P1, between this wild card tournament, a multi-stage AJPP route and a FIP Silver in San Martín, also presented as a direct route to the main draw. The message is clear: Argentine padel is looking to connect its local talent pool to the very highest level more quickly.
For Chiostri and Pereyra, this qualification comes at just the right time. It validates a successful week, but above all their ability to be present in a context where they had to win, not just play well. Now expected in the big draw in Buenos Aires, the two Argentinians will be able to measure themselves against opposition of a completely different calibre, with the impetus of this performance and the support of the local public.
