Thomas Leygue and Jesús Moya knocked out Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi in the round of 16 at the FIP Platinum Lyon. The French-Spanish pair, invited into the main draw, eliminated the sixth seeds and moved into the quarter-finals of the Lyon padel tournament.
The FIP ranking published on September 21 shows the gap on paper: Alonso is world No. 17 and Goñi No. 32, while Leygue is No. 108 and Moya No. 143. FIP had placed the two Spaniards among the eight seeded teams in the draw.

Leygue and Moya had already been pushed hard in their opening match. Against Miguel Lamperti and Octavio Álvarez, they saved a match point before winning 6-7(5), 7-6(4), 6-2. The official FIP draw confirms that result and their place in the round of 16 against Alonso and Goñi.
The Spaniards had started their tournament with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Douglas Rutgersson and Sergio Nieto Simon. Their 2026 season also includes a quarter-final appearance at the Paris Major, two weeks before Lyon.
For Leygue and Moya, this result follows their run in Paris. The Frenchman and his partner reached the last 16 of the Major after beating Juanlu Esbrí and Sanyo Gutiérrez. Leygue became the first French man to reach that round at a Premier Padel Major.

Their partnership had already produced a major result at Roland-Garros. After the Paris Major round of 16, Leygue told L’Équipe how intensely he was experiencing his return to top-level competition.
“I was on a mission in front of my family and friends, and I want to keep dreaming on this court.”
In Lyon, Leygue and Moya first survived a match point in the opening round before beating a pair ranked well ahead of them by FIP. The win over Alonso and Goñi puts them into the quarter-finals of a FIP Platinum event offering 300 points to the champions.
Their quarter-final is scheduled for Friday, September 25. The official FIP draw and Actu Padel’s padel results page will track the next stage of their run.
