Alonso and Goñi take the quarterfinal into a third set
The score shows how hard Paquito Navarro and Martín Di Nenno were pushed. Facing 11th seeds Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi, the fifth seeds took the opening set 7-5 but could not close the match in straight sets. Alonso and Goñi answered in the second, winning the tiebreak to take it 7-6.
A third set was therefore needed at Olympia London. Navarro and Di Nenno won it 6-3 to book their place among the final four pairs. The match lasted more than two hours, and the favourites had to wait until the deciding set to create the decisive gap.
That resistance had a recent precedent. At the Malaga P1 in July, Alonso and Goñi had already taken a set off Coello and Tapia before losing 6-7, 6-1, 6-4. In London, they again pushed a higher-seeded pair into a deciding set. This time, the final score went to Navarro and Di Nenno, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3.
A third semifinal since the reunion
Navarro and Di Nenno reunited at the Rome Major. Since then, they have reached the semifinals in Bordeaux, Malaga and now London, according to the FIP. The London P1 therefore gives their second spell together a third final-four appearance.
At the Rome media day, Di Nenno explained the purpose of their reunion in an interview published by the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel.
We got back together to be competitive against the top pairs in the world, to play and to enjoy ourselves.
The next test fits that ambition exactly. Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia, the top seeds, beat Mariano González and Curro Cabeza 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. The semifinal is scheduled for Saturday, not before 3:30 p.m. in London, or 4:30 p.m. CEST.
The FIP confirmed the quarterfinal score and the next matchup. The full schedule for the event, held from 2 to 9 August at Olympia London, is also available in our London P1 2026 guide. Navarro and Di Nenno now have a few hours to recover before facing the top pair in the draw.
