Triay and Brea at the London P1: the world No. 1s beat Marta Ortega and Sofia Araújo 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 after more than two and a half hours in the quarter-finals of the London event. The match featured 30 games and 11 breaks of serve before the Spanish-Argentine pair controlled the deciding set.
Triay and Brea take the opening set 7-5
The first gap appears at 1-1, when Triay and Brea break serve. They keep that advantage until 5-4, when Ortega and Araújo level at 5-5. The response is immediate: another break for the world No. 1s, followed by a love hold to close the set 7-5.
Ortega and Araújo start the second set by breaking to lead 3-1. Triay and Brea break straight back, but the Spanish-Portuguese pair immediately regain the advantage. At 5-3, the top pair pull another break back for 5-4. Ortega and Araújo break in the tenth game and level the match with a 6-4 set.
Six straight games close the match
Ortega and Araújo win the first game of the third set. The pace then changes. Triay and Brea hold to love, break at 1-1 and keep moving forward without allowing their opponents back into the set. Two more breaks follow, and the 6-1 score ends a match that lasted more than two and a half hours.
The scenario recalls the Pretoria final won five days earlier in 2 hours 53 minutes against Claudia Fernández and Martina Calvo. After that title, Triay explained what had carried the pair through the pressure moments:
“We stayed focused on the present, even during the toughest moments of the match.”
In London, Triay and Brea again had to respond in a deciding set. This time they produced three breaks in the final set. The story of their Pretoria win is available in our report on the South African P1.
Sánchez and Ustero await in the semi-finals
Triay and Brea are due to face Ariana Sánchez and Andrea Ustero in the semi-finals on Saturday 8 August. The London P1 therefore continues with the world No. 1s still in contention after two consecutive three-set matches.
The timing also falls almost exactly one year after their move to the top of the ranking. On 3 August 2025, Triay and Brea won the Tarragona P1 and secured the No. 1 seeding for Madrid. One year later, they remain the world No. 1 pair. Premier Padel published this official reel after they moved to No. 1.
