Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz will play Sunday’s Rotterdam P2 final, their first together on Premier Padel, against world No. 1s Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia. This week’s results show an upset is possible: four wins, no sets dropped and Galán-Chingotto already beaten 6-4, 6-4.
Stupaczuk and Sanz have yet to drop a set
Stupaczuk and Sanz have won all four of their Rotterdam P2 matches in straight sets. After two 6-2, 6-2 wins over Mario Ortega-Adam Axelsson and Pol Hernández-Manuel Castaño, they beat Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals before defeating Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas 6-0, 6-4 in the semi-finals. The FIP confirms this is their first Premier Padel final as a pair.
The duo had already won the FIP Gold in Belgrade in their first tournament together, then reached the FIP Platinum Lyon final. Actu Padel covered that first title in Belgrade. After the win, Stupaczuk told the FIP that their understanding had developed quickly.
For our first tournament together, we had very good feelings. I am very happy with the understanding we have developed.
Coello and Tapia have been taken to three sets twice
Coello and Tapia opened their tournament with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Álvaro Montiel and Daniel Santigosa. They then lost the first set to Tino Libaak and Gonza Alfonso before winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, and dropped the second set against Momo González and Lucas Campagnolo in the semi-final before closing it out 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
The world No. 1s remain the benchmark in this final. The FIP notes that they are defending their Rotterdam title and chasing a tenth trophy in 2026. Their response after losing a set is also a warning for their opponents: the two matches in which they were pushed to a decider ended with a 6-3 and a 6-1 final set.
An upset is credible, but the margin is narrow
Stupaczuk and Sanz arrive with better week-long continuity, while Coello and Tapia have had to manage two difficult spells. The strongest case for the underdogs is their level against the best pairs in the draw: they have just eliminated the No. 2 seeds and then handed Nieto-Yanguas a 6-0 set.
To beat Coello and Tapia, Sanz will need to keep his aggression without forcing early finishes, while Stupaczuk must maintain the volume that stabilises the pair when rallies lengthen. The upset is possible, but the No. 1s have already shown in Rotterdam that they can adjust during a match.
The men’s final is scheduled for Sunday 4 October, not before 17:30 CEST at Rotterdam Ahoy. It pits a pair seeking their first Premier Padel title together against the world No. 1s chasing their tenth trophy of the season.
