Bordeaux P2 padel has moved into main-draw mode. The men’s draw opened at the Patinoire de Mériadeck with two clear first results: Juanlu Esbri and Alex Ruiz beat Javi Garcia and José Jimenez 6/4 6/2, while Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi needed three sets to defeat Maxi Sanchez Blasco and Sanyo Gutierrez 6/3 3/6 6/3.
The direct answer is simple: the Bordeaux tournament has officially launched its main draw, before the top seeds enter on Thursday and before a Wednesday session carrying real French interest. Centre Court should largely follow the local favourites, with Mériadeck expected to build its first big atmosphere of the week.
Two opening matches, two different messages
Esbri/Ruiz’s win stood out for its control. In straight sets, the Spanish pair secured their start and avoided the classic first-round trap, when rhythm can still be uneven. Alonso and Goñi had to deal with a more unstable match before making the difference in the deciding set.
According to the FIP, the Betclic Premier Padel Bordeaux P2 main draw opened with these two men’s matches before the favourites step in. For the wider tournament frame, the draws and key storylines are also available in our Bordeaux P2 preview.
Wednesday gives Mériadeck a French focus
Centre Court then shifts toward a sequence with strong French appeal. After fifth seeds and 2024 Bordeaux champions Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz, play from 17:00 is due to feature three matches of particular interest for the home crowd.
Léa Godallier, alongside Argentina’s Daiara Valenzuela, faces Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga. Yoan Boronad and Timéo Fontany then meet Tino Libaak and Alex Chozas. Finally, Dylan Guichard and Belgium’s Clément Geens take on Iñigo Jofre and Jairo Bautista.
At this stage, the issue is bigger than simply reaching the next round. Bordeaux is also looking for its first rhythm, its first atmosphere and its first strong stories. If the favourites wait until Thursday, Wednesday can already give Mériadeck a distinctly French tone.
