Geens and Guichard in Budapest: two wins on Saturday
Clément Geens and Dylan Guichard came through two rounds on Saturday at the FIP Silver Budapest. In the round of 16, the No. 4 seeds beat Gonzalo Sassano and Noe Navarro Porras 6-3, 6-2. A few hours later, they defeated No. 7 seeds Sten Richters and Albin Olsson 7-6, 6-3 to reach the semifinal.
Their run in Hungary now stands at three straight-set wins. On Friday, Geens and Guichard opened with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jules Marie and Romain Sichez, covered in our first article on their Budapest tournament. The rest of this weekend’s CUPRA FIP Tour schedule is covered in our overview of the seven FIP tournaments.
Libaak and Alfonso, the No. 1 seeds on Center Court
The semifinal pits Geens and Guichard against Tino Libaak and Gonza Alfonso, the No. 1 seeds. The FIP ranking dated 14 September places Geens at world No. 68 with 910 points and Guichard at No. 75 with 868. The FIP listed Alfonso at No. 27 and Libaak at No. 35 this week. The Argentinians already won the FIP Silver Porto Sant’Elpidio together in August.
Sunday’s official order of play puts this semifinal in the second rotation on Center Court, after the women’s semifinal starting at 10 a.m. The FIP therefore does not give Geens-Guichard a fixed start time. If they qualify, the men’s final is scheduled not before 4 p.m. The other semifinal is Federico Mouriño and Marc Quilez against Nacho Moragues and Timéo Fonteny. The official FIP Silver Budapest draw remains the reference for updates during the day.
A second FIP Silver title at stake this season
Geens and Guichard have already won one FIP Silver together in 2026, in Palermo in June, before reaching another final in Porto in July. The Budapest format again gives them a semifinal followed, if they win, by a final on the same day with limited recovery time between the two matches.
After the Porto final, Clément Geens described to Actu Padel how that turnaround affected the pair:
We could feel ourselves starting to get tired and a little more irritable. We were getting frustrated a bit faster than usual.
Budapest is played indoors, unlike the outdoor conditions they faced in Porto. Geens and Guichard first have to beat Libaak-Alfonso. If they do, they will return to Center Court no earlier than 4 p.m., with a second FIP Silver title of the season at stake.
