Flavio Abbate in the FIP Top 50 with 1,176 points
The FIP ranking published on 28 September 2026 places Flavio Abbate at world No. 50 with 1,176 points. His official profile also lists Syracuse as his place of birth and 31 July 2004 as his date of birth. That distinction matters for the record: Abbate is the first Italian player born in Italy to reach the men’s Top 50.
The record is specifically about birthplace. Enzo Jensen Sirvent is ranked No. 41 under the Italian flag in the same ranking, but his FIP profile lists Madrid as his place of birth. Abbate is therefore not the first player competing under the Italian flag to enter the Top 50, but he is the first to do so after being born in Italy.
Madrid accelerated his rise in the FIP ranking
Abbate was still world No. 75 at the end of 2025. His 2026 season then moved him steadily closer to the Top 50. His official FIP profile records a quarterfinal at the Comunidad de Madrid P1 in late August, worth 200 points. Between February and July, he also won five CUPRA FIP Tour titles, including the FIP Silver in Alcalá de Guadaíra.
Before the Italy Major in Rome, where his ranking earned him direct entry into a Major main draw for the first time, Abbate described the work behind his progress in an interview published by the tournament.
“It’s the result of a lot of effort and a lot of tournaments played.”
The Sicilian said at the time that he wanted to start winning more matches against opponents used to the highest level. A few months later, his Madrid quarterfinal and rise to No. 50 provide concrete markers of that progress.
The FIP also covered his silver medal with Alvaro Montiel at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto. The official Instagram post below documents that summer run, just a few weeks before his Madrid quarterfinal.
Two years after the first Italy-born Italian entered the Top 100
The previous benchmark for Italian men’s padel came on 15 July 2024, when Marco Cassetta became the first Italian born in Italy to enter the world Top 100. Abbate himself reached No. 100 in spring 2025 before ending that season inside the Top 75.
The gap between those two thresholds has narrowed quickly. Abbate’s No. 50 ranking also follows his silver medal with Alvaro Montiel at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto and his first Premier Padel quarterfinal. In the 28 September ranking, his FIP profile shows a 14-12 record for the 2026 Premier Padel season and lists Alonso Rodriguez Martinez as his current partner.
