The winners of the 2026 Pretoria P1 padel tournament are Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto in the men’s draw, and Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea in the women’s draw. Both finals, played on Sunday 2 August, went to a deciding set. Galán and Chingotto saved a championship point against Javi Leal and Fran Guerrero (6-2, 5-7, 7-6), while Triay and Brea held off Claudia Fernández and Martina Calvo (6-2, 6-7, 7-6) after two hours and 53 minutes.
Who won the 2026 Pretoria P1? Galán and Chingotto claimed the men’s title. Triay and Brea won the women’s draw.
One championship point, then Leal’s tears
The final match of the week came down to three points. In the deciding tie-break, Leal and Guerrero earned a championship point at 7-6. Chingotto and Galán then won the next three rallies to close a final they had appeared to control after the opening set.
The ending was painful. Javi Leal burst into tears after the match. The young Spaniard and Fran Guerrero were playing their first Premier Padel final after a run that included wins over Juan Lebrón and Leo Augsburger, then Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia. The two friends have known each other since they were nine. In Pretoria, their childhood dream ended one point short of the trophy.
Their week still carries weight. The 7-5, 7-5 win over Coello and Tapia ended the world No.1 pair’s run of 27 consecutive finals, a result covered in our semi-final report.
Chingotto and Galán return to winning ways
For “Chingalán”, this was a long-awaited return. The Spanish-Argentine pair claimed their sixth title of the 2026 season and their first since the Buenos Aires P1 in May. They took control with a 6-2 opening set, before dropping serve late in the second and losing their break advantage at 5-4 in the third.
Galán admitted that it had been a difficult week as he collected the trophy.
“It was a very tough week and perhaps not my best tournament. I have to thank Fede for carrying me to this victory.”
Chingotto focused on the points played under pressure. Their ability to stay in the rally when Leal and Guerrero were one point from the title decided the final. The full result and post-match comments were published by the International Padel Federation.
Triay and Brea hold off the new generation
The women’s final had opened the day with the same tension. Fernández and Calvo were playing their first tournament together. After taking the second set, they moved a break ahead in the third and served for the title at 30-15. They were two points away from a first trophy as a pair.
Triay and Brea broke back, then won the tie-break 7-4 after a volley error from Calvo. The world No.1s claimed their fifth title of the season and a second in a row after Málaga. Their return to winning form is now confirmed, while Fernández and Calvo also established themselves as a pair to watch.
“We won because of our mental strength. We stayed focused on the present, even in the toughest moments.”
Pretoria brought the first Premier Padel event staged in South Africa to a close. The tour now moves straight to the London P1, whose main draw begins on Tuesday 4 August.
